The Gig House
This is a residential project called the Gig house located in Suf- folk. It is a house built hundred years ago which is in the middle of a prairie surrounded by trees. There is a road behind the house and steam just next to the road.
This is a grade 2 protected building, therefore, the structure of the original building cannot be changed.
The client for this project is an architect, a studio workshop is required by him. The client has also noted that the working space and living room need to be separated. An extension will be added to the original building as a living room and the original build- ing is used as a studio for the client to work in.
The extension is designed to be a living room and dining room. The open kitchen is designed to make the space more open. A sliding door behind the kitchen is installed which goes straight to the yard, so people can eat inside the house or outside with nature. A stair is located next to the kitchen which leads to the glass walkway to the bedroom.
The bedroom is on the first floor of the original building. However, it could only be accessed through the glass walkway in the living room, as it can prevent guests who came for work to go up to the bedroom.
The workshop is on the ground floor of the original building. There is a step up in the middle to separate meeting table and the work- ing table. And at the end of the room, there is a pantry/ relaxation area for people to rest between work.
